Sustainability Services Manager: Technical Project Manager
Our client is a global leader and household name in the provision of management consulting services and technology solutions. A $multi-billion global entity our client is recognised as having unparalleled experience and capability across all business sectors and geographies.
 
We are now looking for a UK-based Sustainability Services' Manager to strengthen our client’s operation. This role will include supporting the growth of the Sustainability practice across the UK and Ireland, managing project delivery and team-based activities and supporting the development of our client’s intellectual and commercial offerings. You will be working in the newest of our client's Global Business Services and in an entrepreneurial atmosphere. This role will also support the growth and development of the Sustainability Group offerings, including Sustainability Strategy, Journey Management, Sustainable Infrastructure, Intelligent Cities, Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency, Sustainability Performance Management and Building Sustainability Capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Identifying opportunities to grow our client’s Sustainability Services' market share across UK/I.
  • Managing complex project deliveries on client engagements, with strong project and programme management, including the management and deployment of technical solutions
  • Managing teams of Analysts, Consultants and Junior Managers.
  • Working virtually with our offshore teams..
  • Demonstrable interest and experience in Sustainability, especially as this pertains to our core offerings
  • Coordinating responses to proposals and developing the skills to manage a project end-to-end.
  • Developing intellectual and commercial assets around existing Sustainability Services' offerings.
  • Supporting the growth and development of the UK/I Sustainability Services. You will play a crucial role in reaching out to the senior Management Consulting team, helping ensure a healthy supply of junior resources from amongst the existing Analyst and Consulting pool, and developing the skills, competencies and knowledge of the junior members of the team.
  • Representing our client at industry events.
  • Creating networks of customers across existing and potential clients, as well as internal stakeholders.

 
Challenges will include:
  • Consulting on the leadership and management of change initiatives, communications, training and other support programs that will effectively prepare client staff to perform optimally.
  • Delivering quality projects that are both technically appropriate and able to be implemented within the client environment.
  • Developing, execution and maintenance of the project work plan and budget.
  • Examining "go-to-market" business strategies and tactics by working with senior management.
  • Successfully maintaining high-level client relationships and meeting/exceeding client expectations. Identifying and develop value-added service opportunities.
  • Intellectual contribution to the knowledge base. Conducting resource planning/skills' assessment and monitoring utilization levels to manage project staffing.
  • Responsibility for the development of ongoing client relationships.
 
 
What we're looking for:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, high personal standards, a high degree of creativity, ability to develop intellectual capital and professional ethics. You will have previous experience in consulting, as well as a proven interest in Sustainability.  You must be a team player and have strong lateral management and persuasive skills. You must have the spirit, ability and desire to work in an entrepreneurial environment that does not afford the administrative support of a larger service line, necessitating all team members to multi-task and work "hands on". You will be expected to demonstrate potential for a Senior Manager role as your career develops.
 
 
Requirements
  • Broad knowledge of the issues and opportunities surrounding Sustainability and, in particular, the impact of Sustainability on an ever changing business environment.
  • Deep sector experience in one of the following: Sustainability Strategy, Journey Management, Sustainable Infrastructure, Intelligent Cities, Clean Energy and Energy Efficiency, Sustainability Performance Management and/or Building Sustainability.
  • Project management

  • Ability to think laterally and adapt previous experience and solutions to the project in hand.
  • Energy, drive and commitment to support the team in growing Sustainability Services.
  • Flexibility to respond nimbly to shifting priorities.

Skills desired:
  • Prior consulting experience with external clients, preferably with exposure to senior management.
  • Solid understanding of the commercial drivers for a successful consulting practice.
  • Industry expertise in two or more areas.
  • Strong functional expertise in at least one area outside Sustainability.
 

Other requirements:
  • Strong problem-solving, statistical and analytical skills
  • A top degree from a world-class university.
  • Further studies and / or relevant professional qualifications are also desirable.
  • To be recognised by your peers as a subject matter expert in at least one field of sustainability.
  • Geographical mobility. Your base location will be London, although most of our consultants work on lengthy client engagements within the UK and Ireland. Therefore you must be willing to work away from home Monday to Thursday as required.
