Our Client

Our client is a well funded start up, Wind Turbine design house based in the Netherlands with a leadership team highly respected and experienced in the wind industry. With a focus on the offshore and deep offshore markets our client’s new concept turbine incorporates innovative solutions in almost all aspects of design from the support structure up through electrics and on to the rotor and blade design.

Position description

You will be responsible for the design, calculations and specification of structural wind turbine components, to be manufactured by third parties. The structural engineer is part of the mechanical team and reports to the Team Leader Mechanical Engineering.

Tasks and responsibilities

• Design and strength assessment of structural components like hub, frame and shaft
• Write component specifications for third party supply
• Write component certification documents
• Write first article qualification specification
• Maintain the technical contacts with the components suppliers
• Involvement in supplier qualification, first article inspection, etc

Education

• Advanced degree (MSc or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or in a closely related discipline

Working experience

• At least 5 years proven experience in design of welded, cast and forged components
• Working with certification bodies (e.g. Germanischer Lloyd)
• Technical point of contact for the components suppliers
• Vendor qualification
• Experience in the wind industry would be beneficial

Personal skills

• The candidate must have good organizational and communication skills and must be able to work within an international, multi-disciplinary team
• Self-starter and pro-active problem solver

Software skills

• In-depth experience with ANSYS, LMS Virtual Lab/Falancs, or similar software
• Experience with CAD systems is beneficial

Language skills

• The candidate must have a good command of business English, written and spoken
• Command of German language is beneficial
