The Business Unit

The Economics and Finance team, within the Renewable Generation and Environment provides economic, financial, policy and strategic advisory services to Governments, Regulators, Project Sponsors, Investors, IFIs, Multilateral Funding Agencies and others; primarily for policy appraisal and evaluation, regulatory reforms, market design, price reviews and tariff studies, infrastructure & development projects in both fossil and renewable energy. They add value to our client businesses by providing support in project negotiations, executing M&A deals, conducting investment appraisal, feasibility studies, market modelling and forecasts, due diligence exercises, formulating national policies, developing business and risk management strategies and carrying out asset valuation.

Job Description

Increased workload with clients such as Governments, Utilities, Investors and Multi-lateral Development Banks in the areas of Restructuring & De-Regulation of the energy sectors, design of energy markets, market analysis and investments appraisal, world-wide has led to a new opening for a senior consultant with experience in liberalised energy markets and the impact of the Regulatory framework. The successful candidate (preferably with an Economics or Engineering background) will have specialist knowledge and experience in energy markets and will undertake project work as well as marketing and pitching tasks, representing the firm with clients and assisting in the formulation of proposals. The Senior Regulatory Analyst will report to the Principal Consultant - “Markets & Regulations” and assist in project work and other tasks as mentioned above. It is likely that the team will expand further in the future.

The key role of the Senior Regulatory Analyst will be to support the pace and breadth of the client's renewable energy and environmental growth in it’s efforts to win new projects and market share whilst managing ongoing project work. The division is therefore seeking a candidate who balances extensive understanding of the energy regulatory environment (mainly European), with commercial insight into the operations of organized markets including fundamental analysis of commodities prices and the comprehensive understanding of mechanisms deployed in Electricity and Gas markets (balancing, settlement, gas storage, network economics etc). The successful candidate must possess excellent reporting, presentation and writing skills.

The Candidate
  • Educated to degree level (2:1 and above), Economics, Engineering or other regulatory qualifications
  • Strong business acumen coupled with entrepreneurial flair and energy
  • Able to work flexibly and collegiately within a small team
  • Able to work independently whilst contributing to meeting the objectives of the Dept
  • Ability to quickly understand and assimilate different regulatory regimes and market frameworks
  • Able to work in a dynamic pressurised environment and meet tight deadlines
  • Able to travel extensively and adapt with local culture and working ethos
  • Highly effective communication skills, articulate and able to converse at all levels
  • Fluent in English, other European languages would be an advantage
