Senior Mechanical Thermal Engineer, India

The Role

The Thermal Generation Business Division provides world class expertise in all technical, commercial, project management, design, environmental and advisory aspects of thermal power generation, cogeneration, combined heat and power, and desalination.

A senior mechanical engineer is required to undertake business development and lead projects on a range of power generation technology projects, especially coal fired thermal power projects. There will be opportunities for career development leading to project director or senior management roles.

The role shall also include business development and project management.

The Thermal Generation Business Division comprises a number of teams each headed by a team leader. Project engineers are assigned to a team for management reporting and overall co–ordination of their development.

Required mechanical engineers with experience in design and engineering of thermal power projects. The candidate must have good overall knowledge of thermal power plant and hands on design and engineering experience in any or more areas namely boiler, turbine, layout, piping, coal handling, etc. Candidates shall have experience in any or more activities namely preparation of technical specification, bid evaluation, vendor review engineering, detailed engineering and quality assurance. Additional experience in carrying out feasibility studies and due diligence studies shall be preferred.

The candidate should have experience and knowledge of development of IPPs in India and issues involving funding of power projects.

The candidate should have experience or exposure of various project documents like EPC contracts, power purchase & fuel supply agreements, etc.

The candidate shall have the ability to lead a team of engineers and should have demonstrated it successfully in past.

When working on a specific project which may require short periods of travel, responsibilities will be as defined by the project manager responsible for that assignment.

Essential competencies / skills:
  • Good knowledge of entire power plant
  • Design and Engineering skill in any one of the following areas of Thermal Power Plant: Boiler, Steam / Gas Turbine, Material Handling (Coal/Ash/Fuel Oil), etc.
  • Technically competent and IT proficient.
  • Commercially aware and team player.
  • Project Management skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
