Offshore Wind Farm Structural Engineer

The Offshore Team undertakes the full range of environmental, technical and commercial activities that are required for the development, construction and operation of offshore wind farms.  Delivering successful projects from initiation to realisation requires a multidisciplinary team in which engineering plays a significant role. 

As a member of the Offshore Engineering Department and will work with our in-house development, engineering and construction teams and with our clients and contractors in a range of roles, including:

  • Client’s engineer for foundation design, supply & installation including undertaking technical reviews of design basis, detailed design, fabrication methods, installation methods and design risk assessments
  • Perform FEED design studies of wind turbine foundations, covering piles, jackets & gravity bases, offshore substation foundations and topsides
  • Defining functional specifications including applicable standards, design codes and certification requirements
  • Geotechnical data interpretation and the specification of design parameters
  • Metocean data interpretation and the definition of wave and current design parameters
  • Managing structure certification with Independent Verification Body
  • Managing the design interface with the wind turbine supplier including loading and structural characteristics

The role will require some travel within the UK and Europe.

This role would suit a degree qualified (or equivalent) engineer with relevant design or construction experience in structural or marine engineering.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate that they have the following capabilities:

  • Knowledge and experience of the offshore/marine engineering sector.
  • Knowledge and experience of large steel fabrication design and manufacture
  • Structural analysis techniques and experience  including geotechnical engineering
  • Knowledge and experience of offshore steel design codes

The following attributes are desirable:

  • Knowledge of metocean (wave & current) loading
  • Knowledge of wind turbine loading
  • Relevant experience of the wind energy sector
  • Knowledge of topside design including layout, structure, welfare provision and emergency systems
  • Knowledge of offshore corrosion & mitigation methods
  • Design or construction project management experience.
  • Proven experience and training in offshore working.
  • Proven experience and training in CDM Regulations.
  • Chartered status in a relevant Engineering Institution.
