International Development Manager, Water and Sanitation

The Client

Our client is a global £1 billion business spaning 120 countries with over 14,000 staff working in all sectors from transport, energy, buildings, water and the environment to health and education, industry and communications.

Their breadth of skills, services and international reach makes us one of the world's top consulting practices in delivering management, engineering and development consultancy solutions for our public and private sector customers.

The Role

They require an international manager who is able to produce winning international proposals and effectively deliver the service offering to clients, mainly in the developing world. Core water and sanitation experience is essential along with an understanding of institutional aspects. The post will be Cambridge based but with extensive travel overseas, mainly short duration.

Job Description   

Business Development
  • Managing an international portfolio of projects mainly based upon Africa.
  • Establishing an appropriate balance between fee earning work and business development.
  • Taking the lead in the management of international proposals.
  • Development of key client relationships with donors, governments, private sector.
  • Tracking opportunities and developing local partnerships .
  • Proactively developing business opportunities and the means to deliver them.
Project management
  • Leading a delivery team on international assignments.
  • Managing and directing ongoing international projects.
  • Support to other portfolio managers.
  • Providing niche technical support to project staff.
Other
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and business planning of the international water team.
  • Directing and supporting staff.
The Candidate

A chartered Civil Engineer with extensive experience in the water and wastewater industry:
  • Proven experience in developing countries, preferably Africa.
  • Sound knowledge of IFI funding mechanisms and ideally should have experience in proposal writing.
  • A high level of interpersonal and communication skills is required.
  • Masters degree in a related development subject would be an advantage.
