Front Office Carbon Originator, Downstream

Client and Job Profile

Our client, one of the world’s leading energy companies, is looking for a Front Office Carbon Originator – Downstream.

This new position will have a strong focus in central and eastern European countries, especially Bulgaria and Germany. Bulgaria is the only EU country that has not issued its European emissions Allowances for 2008, therefore being the country with the biggest business potential.

This role will also cover the German market (the biggest European emitter, and therefore the most attractive country for the purposes of emissions trading). In order to be successful in these markets, relevant language skills of the job holder are essential.

Main Responsibilities
  • Responsible for downstream carbon activity in compliance markets with key focus on East European and South East European counterparties and markets
  • Responsible for development of standard traded products (e.g. secondary CER/ERU transactions) and contribution to deal flow for the trading team
  • Identify and establish new business channels in-line with the sales and marketing strategy
  • Focus on the development of carbon activity in new/different markets
  • Responsible for originating structured deals, negotiating and concluding purchase contracts with customers
  • Establish new and maintain existing relationships with customers
  • Manage growth in sales volumes and growth in the customer base
  • Provide input to legal review of sales contract terms and conditions
  • Monetisation of upstream carbon projects
  • Deliver trading optimisation opportunities to the trading team
  • Delivers direct contribution to P&L
  • Build strategic relationships with core internal business partners
  • Production of management reports and presentations
  • Ensure compliance with risk management governance policies and procedures.
The Candidate
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualifications.
  • Bi-lingual in English plus an East European language preference for Bulgarian, Romanian, Polish or Hungarian. Candidates should be fluent – both written and spoken
