Technical Director - Rivers and Coastal

The Division 
Our clients' Coastal & Rivers team is continually in demand worldwide for projects involving coastal and river management and the enhancement of the environment. Their broad knowledge and experience enable us to find practical solutions for the most complex of problems, for example flood risk management against the backdrop of climate change and coastal erosion.

 

Job description
We are currently looking to appoint a Technical Director to deepen our local technical expertise, and to allow further growth. This is a technical role and the post holder will sit alongside the line management structure, providing support to the whole team as required.

 

Key duties will be to act as the senior technical reviewer for the South West and Ireland unit (Exeter, Bodmin and Dublin). The role will also encompass providing guidance to project proposals, undertaking the role of Review Engineer on projects which will include advising on the development of project appraisals with particular reference to option selection, site investigation, risk assessment and management, costing, and change control, as well as the development of detailed designs and contract documents. Familiarity with Health and Safety legislation and an awareness of environmental and other approval processes is also required.

 

The postholder will provide the technical focus for the region, take an active role in staff development and undertake a mentoring role for key technical staff.

 

The post is based in Exeter, with frequent visits to Bodmin, Dublin, and sites as required.  

 

The ideal candidate will need the following:-

  • Extensive experience of developing successful river engineering and coastal projects
  • Experience of preparing detail designs and Works Information
  • Packages for river and coastal structures
  • Experience of preparing technical project reports and funding proposals
  • Extensive experience of leading design teams
  • Undertaking role of technical Reviewer
  • Considerable site experience as Contractor or Designer
  • Familiarity with construction contracts
  • Understanding and application of Change control procedures (design and construction stages)
  • Ability to work effectively and be persuasive in a multi-functional project team
